Dr. Megan Nickels Wins Women of Distinction: Excellence in Mentoring Award

The Faculty Excellence Center for Success of Women Faculty has awarded STEM Education Assistant Professor Dr. Megan Nickels with the Women of Distinction: Excellence in Mentoring Award in the category of 1-5 years of service.

Since August 2015, Dr. Nickels has mentored three undergraduate Honors in the Major students, five master’s students, two doctoral students, and one postdoctoral researcher along with more than 100 undergraduate students in her role as the founding faculty mentor of the Pediatric Interest Group-Education (pig-e) student organization. The group advocates for and delivers hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) content with robotics and virtual reality for children with critical and terminal illnesses in Central Florida, and is aligned with Dr. Nickels’ groundbreaking research and collaborations.

The recognition also includes a $1,000 prize for future professional development opportunities.
