Inaugural Convocation Ceremony Welcomes Transfer Students

Transfer students enrolled during the 2017 Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters were welcomed by Dean Pamela Carroll, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. JP Mendez, faculty, and staff and received a commemorative pin during the convocation ceremony.

Guest speakers provided our college’s students with words of wisdom and encouraged campus involvement and volunteerism while at UCF.

Red Bug Elementary School Assistant Principal and alumnus Jake Novak, ’07 and ’09, transferred to UCF from a small, private university in St. Louis, Missouri where he grew up and fell in love with education. He provided our college’s transfer students with advice.

“Be persistent and remember the reason that education picked you. Education is one of the most rewarding fields in the world and you’re going to change lives every single day.”

Dr. Mendez organized the convocation ceremony to accelerate our transfer students’ socialization within the college. He said the pin is the first step during their academic journey.

“The pin is a cultural artifact and shows that the transfer students are members of our college community and will hopefully become a longstanding tradition.”

Sport and Exercise Science student Typhanie Quest transferred to UCF from Valencia College. She’s planning to attend graduate school and becoming an occupational therapist. She was honored to receive our college’s pin and touched by the convocation ceremony.

“This pin symbolizes that I can do it along with success. Today’s ceremony was motivational and inspirational and gives me hope.”
